Bay Area Firefighter from Elk Grove Dies Off-Duty

ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - An Elk Grove resident who worked as a firefighter in Fremont died at his home in Elk Grove, the Fremont Fire Department announced last week.
Anthony Ganzler suffered a job-related medical emergency described as a cardiac event while off-duty on March 17. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
“His warmth and humor made him universally loved by all he worked with and his passing is an immeasurable loss for our organization,” the Fremont Fire Department local union chapter wrote on a GoFundMe.
The GoFundMe has already raised approximately $58,000.
Ganzler joined the Fremont Fire Department in 2019 and was a member of the Fremont Fire Lateral Academy Class of 2019-1. He also served in the Army.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Anthony’s family, friends and loved ones throughout our own ranks and beyond,” the department wrote on social media.
A celebration of life ceremony was held on Thursday, March 27 in El Dorado Hills.
