GALT, CA (MPG) - The Galt Police Department is hosting a public memorial reveal for Officer Harminder Grewal in front of Galt Police Department headquarters at 3 p.m. Feb. 20.

Grewal died four days after his patrol vehicle was struck head on by a pickup truck that broke through a center barrier on Highway 99 near Dillard Road in 2021.

Grewal, alongside his partner, officer Kapri Herrera, were traveling to assist with the Caldor Fire in the El Dorado National Forest before the crash.

Herrera returned to duty in 2024, three years after the crash.

Grewal’s death rocked the local law enforcement community leading to an outpouring of support from local law enforcement and emergency response agencies, including the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office and the Cosumnes Community Services District.

“Officer Grewal took pride in serving his community and his work ethic was contagious to all who worked with him. His service to our community will never be forgotten,” the department wrote in a statement following his death.

Grewal had served with the department for two-and-a-half years and was named Officer of the Year in 2020. The department has held annual wreath-laying ceremonies for Grewal since his death.
