The Monterey Trail girls basketball team finished a perfect 12-0 season in the Delta League last week to earn the Delta League Championship.
The girls soundly defeated Franklin High School 65-27 on the road to cap off the perfect season. They went 19-5 overall with a perfect 9-0 record on the road.
Junior point guard Dalis Blackshire led the team in scoring with 11.4 points a game, followed by senior Alia Wilson with eight points and three assists per contest. Wilson also added three steals per game on the defensive end.
Junior forward Jameise Stigler was a force in the paint with seven rebounds a game.
The Mustangs qualified for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs as the No. 8 seed and will face off against No. 8 seed Inderkum on Tuesday. The winner of that matchup will play on Thursday against either No. 1-seed Folsom High School or No. 16-seed Edison High School.
The Mustangs will head into the playoffs with momentum, having won 14 straight and 15 of their last 16 games.
The girls team joined their male counterparts at the top of the Delta League Championships after the men defeated Franklin High School in a close contest before the Mustangs ran away with it in the fourth quarter.
