Basketball: Monterey Trail, Franklin Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

ELK GROVE, CA – Two boys basketball teams from the Delta League advanced to the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 playoffs, while two of the girls’ squads dropped their first-round matchups.
Below are the results from the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.
Boys Basketball
Monterey Trail 83, Edison 48
The Monterey Trail Mustangs soundly defeated the Edison Vikings on Wednesday to advance to the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 playoffs.
The Mustangs entered the matchup as the No. 5 seed and just a few days after being crowned co-champs of the Delta League. They also earned first place in the Metropolitan Conference the year prior before jumping to the Delta League.
The Mustangs will look to make it to the semifinals on Friday when they take on the No. 4 seed Lincoln High School in Stockton at 7:30 p.m.
Franklin 57, Oak Ridge 49
The No. 8 seed Franklin Wildcats advanced to the second round of the Division 1 playoffs after going on the road to hand the Oak Ridge Trojans a loss.
The Wildcats, who finished the season third in the Delta League, will advance to the quarterfinals where they will clash with the No. 1 seed Modesto Christian Crusaders on Friday at Franklin.
Franklin High School and the Monterey Trail Mustangs have a chance to face each other in the semifinals if the Wildcats can topple the Crusaders and the Mustangs can vanquish Lincoln high School on Friday.
Weston Ranch 56, Sheldon 53
The Co-Delta League Champion Sheldon Huskies were knocked out of the playoffs on Wednesday after dropping their first-round matchup against the Weston Ranch Cougars.
The No. 7 seed, Sheldon wrapped up its season 11-1 in league play, good enough for a share of the Delta League Championship, and 19-10 overall.
Weston Ranch will advance to the second round where they will take on No. 2 seed Inderkum High School.
Girls Basketball
Inderkum 47, Monterey Trail 33
The Monterey Trail Mustangs girls’ basketball team ended its remarkable season after falling to the Inderkum Tigers in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Girls Basketball Playoffs on Tuesday.
The Mustangs entered the game the winners of their last 14 games, and undefeated in the Delta League to earn the Delta League Championship.
No. 9-seed Inderkum will go up against the powerhouse No. 1 seed Folsom High School on Thursday.
Lincoln 50, Pleasant Grove 49
The Pleasant Grove Eagles were inched out of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Girls Basketball Playoffs on Tuesday after losing a close one against the Lincoln High School Trojans.
The Eagles ended their season third place in the Delta League at 9-3 and a 18-9 record overall.
Junior Kate Meyers was the leading scorer for Pleasant Grove for the season at 20.6 points a game. She also added 8.4 rebounds a game and 2.1 steals on defense.
The Lincoln High School Trojans advanced to Round 2 of the playoffs where they will face off against the Oak Ridge Trojans.
