Delta All-League Teams Announced

ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Delta League Winter All-League Teams have dropped, highlighting the best the conference has to offer in local basketball, soccer and wrestling. 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Year       

Rashawn Inglemon – Monterey Trail
Senior guard Rashawn Inglemon helped lead a talented Mustangs squad to the CIF State Basketball Tournament following a 24-win season, and a share of the Delta League title. Inglemon was second on the team in scoring behind Freshman standout Devaughn Dorrough with 15.8 points a game according to MaxPreps stat keepers. He came through defensively with nearly 2 steals a game, while sinking 90% of his free throws.  

Coach of the Year       

Robert Fields – Monterey Trail
Coach Robert Fields led the Monterey Trail Mustangs to a share of the Delta League title and a 11-1 record in their first year in the conference. The Mustangs were able to secure a seat on the CIF State Basketball Tournament as a No. 15 seed, but lost in the first round on Tuesday, March 4 against the Buchanan Bears of Clovis.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Year       

Kate Myers – Pleasant Grove
Junior guard Kate Myers lit up the scoreboard in her third varsity season of her prolific high school career at Pleasant Grove. The three-sport athlete led the Eagles in scoring with 20.6 points per game on 41% shooting while leading the Eagles for a tie for second place with the Laguna Creek Cardinals. The Eagles fell in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin playoffs against the Lincoln Trojans, 50-49. 

Coach of the Year       

Dave Whitsett – Monterey Trail
12-0. That says it all for the standout delta league season for the head coach Dave Whitsett and the Monterey Trail Women’s basketball team. The Mustangs were a powerhouse all season long, going undefeated in league play. Whitsett’s Mustangs would fall in the first round of the playoffs, 47-33 to Inderkum High School.

Men’s Soccer Player of the Year 

Diego Villasenor – Franklin 
Villasenor, a senior, helped propel the first-place Franklin Wildcats to a 11-1 record, the team’s first CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championship, and helped solidify the Wildcats as the city’s first representative in the Boys Soccer NorCal Regional Tournament. 

Coach of the Year 

Jacob Schanning – Franklin
Schanning, a Third-year head coach for the Wildcats, led the boys soccer program to their first CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championship and an 11-1 record (21-2-1 overall) as of press time. Schanning. According to MaxPreps, the Wildcats are ranked No. 4 in the state, and No. 26 across the nation.

Women’s Soccer Player of the Year 

Jalana Kimber – Cosumnes Oaks
Kimber, a senior forward, led the Wolfpack in goals per match at one a game, on 21 shots, according to MaxPreps. Kimber helped lead the Wolfpack to a third-place 7-2-3 record in the Delta League (13-7-4 overall) and a spot in the Division 2 Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs where they would fall to the Granite Bay High School in the semi-finals in a close, 1-0 contest.

Coach of the Year 

Mirzo Alickovic – Sheldon 
Coach Alickovic was named Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, at the helm of the Sheldon Huskies. The Huskies went 2-7-3 in the Delta League, (3-12-4 overall).
