ELK GROVE, CA (MPG) - The Cosumnes Community Services District has a new general manager.
The District Board of Directors last week approved the contract for Tim Ogden to step into the role later this month. According to the district documents, Ogden will make $305,340 in the role, with an annual cost of living adjustment. The contract will begin on April 30.

The contract was approved without any comment from either the board or the members of the public.

Ogden will be tasked with overseeing CCSD functions, which include providing emergency medical, fire protection and parks and recreation services for over 210,000 Sacramento County residents, most notably in Elk Grove and Galt.

Ogden will replace interim general manager and district counsel Sigrid Asmundson, who stepped in after Phil Lewis resigned from the position just a year and a half after taking the post.

Ogden previously served as Brentwood city manager since February 2020. He announced his resignation and intention to take the CCSD general manager position. His final day with the city of Brentwood will be April 26.

Prior to his stint in Brentwood, Ogden worked as a city manager in Manteca and Waterford from 2011 to 2020.

“I couldn't be more excited to join the Cosumnes CSD and the community we serve, and I am honored to step into this role,” Ogden said in a news release. “As the community continues to grow, the district has a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact. I look forward to working with the Board, our dedicated staff, and community partners to advance our mission, enhance services, and ensure Cosumnes CSD remains a cornerstone of safety and quality recreation."

Arts and Creative Economy Holds First Meeting
The much-awaited Elk Grove Arts and Creative Economy Commission held its first meeting last month.

The commission took the place of the Arts Commission with the goal of fostering a stronger “creative economy” across the city by developing funding strategies, programs and opportunities to help leverage economic benefits from the arts.

At its first meeting, the commission was tasked with receiving and providing input on the Eric Dowdle Puzzle Project for the City of Elk Grove’s 25th anniversary, the Asphalt School Art Project and Sundae Funday.

At its next meeting, the commission will discussion the Elk Grove Mural Festival memorandum of understanding, a strategy request for proposal and receive an update on the city’s percent for the arts program.

Mello-Roos Tax Reduction Applications Open
Senior citizens within the Elk Grove Unified School District boundaries can apply for a 70% reduction for the school district’s Mello-Roos tax assessment.

In 1987 and 1998, voters in the Elk Grove Unified School District approved Measure A bond measures to help finance school facility improvements at every school in the district. The measure authorized administrators to sell bonds and agree to a Mello-Roos special property tax assessment to repay the bond debt.

A Mello-Roos tax is a special assessment unique to California that can be added to your property tax bill to help fund new infrastructure and amenities within a specific district or neighborhood.
To qualify for the reduction, applicants must be at least 65 years old as of June 30 or fully disabled and have no school-age children who have lived in the residence in the previous 24 months.
